COURSE OVERVIEW
In today’s business environment, project management has become a tool for achieving strategic goals. As such, project management has received attention from diverse industries including the pharmaceutical, hospitality, contruction, manufacturing, infromation technology, etc. This course focuses on the application of project management principles, tools and techniques to managing the pharmaceutical supply chain.
The creation of drugs and devices is a complicated process that requires efficient project management. Traditionally, the pharmaceutical industry is one that has been insulated from sequestered and significant competive pressure. With the ever-increasing pressures in the industry, the use of project management can provide essiential tools and techniques and be a key factor in the successful completion of bringing a drug or a medical device to the market. The pharmaceutical supply chain must thus be taken beyond its basic and mechanical form to a modernised and innovation one.
This course aims to deliver more than the usual project basics and would take students through the concept of the project life cycle from initiation through planning to delivery of business benefits in the management of pharmaceutical project resources. It is designed to take students through the lifecycle of pharmaceutical projects, from early conception and scope definition through to evaluation and closure. The course also takes students through the application of project management tools, techniques, and standards that enable effective management of pharmaceutical projects.
COURSE OBJECTIVE(S)
The objective of this course is to enable the student to gain a broad understanding of the tools and techniques of a pharmaceutical project management learn how these can be applied in a typical pharma/bio or medical device project.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of the Project Management course the students should be able to:
- Summarize the project management course and understand the course details and requirements.
- Describe the project initiation, planning, execution and termination processes as they apply to the creation of drugs and pharmaceutical devices.
- Demonstrate the concept of pharmaceutical project screening and selection and the role of the project manager and team in the success of the project.
- Appraise the planning tools and techniques used by project professionals for making strategic decisions in leading and managing pharmaceutical project activities and resources.
- Demonstrate an understand of activity scheduling, costing, budgeting and allocation of resources on pharmaceutical projects.
- Critique the pharmaceutical project execution processes as well as the monitoring and control procedures.
- Demonstrate pharmaceutical project closure and termination processes and procedures.
- Summarize the entire course drawing on the connection between the different modules covered in the course.
